The City of Anniston’s Facade Improvement program offers matching funds and, in certain cases, design assistance to businesses in the historic commercial areas of Anniston in order to improve the appearance of individual building facades, signs and awnings, as well as the overall look of the districts.
Improvements must be to areas visible from the principal public way.
The goal of this program is to leverage private improvements while making revitalization efforts affordable, creative and community-based.
The Spirit of Anniston Design Committee (Design Committee) administers the Façade Improvement Program and makes recommendations for funding to the City of Anniston’s Revolving Fund Committee (Revolving Fund Committee).
The Design Committee is made up of Anniston business and property owners and residents, some of whom have design expertise and others who just want to improve the physical appearance of the community.
The award amount is based on available funds, applicants, and other variables and typically will not exceed $5,000 for each approved phase (removal, restoration, or multistage restoration).
